Futures trading appeals to many newcomers in Pakistan because a small deposit seems to control a large position. That is exactly the danger. Leverage shrinks the distance between your entry and the price at which the exchange closes the trade for you, and on volatile days that distance can disappear within minutes. Before anyone opens a perpetual contract on Binance, OKX, Bybit or Bitget, they should be able to find and interpret the liquidation estimate on the order screen. This guide shows where it is and what changes it.

Isolated versus cross margin

Every major futures screen lets you choose a margin mode before entering an order. Isolated margin limits the possible loss to the amount assigned to that one position. Cross margin draws on the whole futures wallet to keep positions open, which can delay liquidation but also exposes everything in the wallet. Beginners usually find isolated easier to reason about, because the worst case is visible and fixed. Check the mode label next to the leverage selector each time, since some apps remember your last choice per contract.

How leverage moves the liquidation line

Set a hypothetical order size and watch the estimated liquidation price as you change leverage. At low settings it sits far from the entry; as leverage rises it creeps closer until a modest move would trigger it. Bybit and Bitget show the estimate directly on the order panel, and Binance and OKX display it in the position details or a calculator. Use the built-in calculator to test scenarios without risking funds, and write down the distance as a percentage of the entry price.

Stop-loss before entry, not after

Attach a stop-loss when you place the order, using the take-profit and stop-loss fields on the order form. Place it well before the liquidation price so you choose your exit rather than having it chosen for you. Remember that in sharp moves a stop-market order fills at the next available price, which can be worse than the trigger. Review the help pages of your exchange for how stop orders behave during fast markets.

Practise small and review funding

Start with an amount you could lose entirely without affecting rent or family expenses. Perpetual contracts also charge or pay a funding amount at regular intervals; the current rate and next time appear above the chart. Holding a position for days can add up, so read the funding section in your exchange help centre and check the live figure before you plan to hold overnight.

Scenario checkpoint

  • Select isolated margin and confirm the mode label beside leverage before every new futures order.
  • Use the exchange calculator to compare liquidation distance at several leverage levels before choosing one.
  • Attach a stop-loss on the order form placed well ahead of the estimated liquidation price.
  • Check the live funding rate and next funding time above the chart before holding a position overnight.
