A green reserve badge is not the whole story: checking exchange snapshots from Pakistan

Binance, OKX, Bybit and Bitget all publish reserve reports with a headline ratio. This guide explains which assets that number covers, what it cannot tell you and how to check your own balance in the snapshot.

Reserve pages are easy to find and easy to misread. Each of the four large exchanges shows a ratio for major coins, sometimes with a green badge, and a quick glance suggests the platform holds more than it owes. That is part of the picture, but only part. A reserve snapshot compares customer balances in selected assets with wallets the exchange says it controls on a given date. It does not usually show liabilities outside those assets, loans, or what happened the day after. For someone in Pakistan keeping savings on an exchange, knowing those limits is more useful than the ratio itself.

Find the report and note the date and asset list

Each exchange links its reserve page from the help centre or the footer of its website; search the support hub for proof of reserves if you cannot see it. On the page, note the snapshot date, the list of coins included and whether the report mentions an outside auditor or accounting firm. A ratio for BTC and USDT says nothing about a small altcoin that is not in the list. If the coin you hold most is missing, the report simply does not cover it.

Check that your own balance was included

Most reserve pages offer a verification tool, often under a tab such as Verify or My assets, that uses a Merkle tree. Logged in, you can see a record ID and the balance the snapshot captured for you. Compare it with what your account held on that date, which you can reconstruct from the transaction history. A match shows that your balance was counted on the liabilities side; it does not prove that the exchange can pay every user at once.

What the ratio does not tell you

A snapshot is a single moment. Assets can move after the date, and the report rarely includes debts the exchange owes outside customer balances. Wallet ownership is demonstrated in different ways by different platforms, and the depth of any outside review varies. Read the methodology section, even if it is short, and look for wording such as agreed-upon procedures, which means a limited check rather than a full audit. Treat a strong ratio as one signal alongside the exchange's history and your own withdrawal experience.

Turning the report into a personal decision

Use the report to decide how much you are comfortable leaving on any single platform, not whether one platform is perfectly safe. Many people keep a trading float on an exchange and move longer-term holdings to a wallet they control. Revisit the reserve page when a new snapshot is published and note whether the date, assets and method stayed consistent. Sudden gaps, a missing month or a shrinking asset list are worth more attention than the size of the ratio.

Risk boundary: Pakistan Crypto Guide

Digital assets are volatile and derivatives can amplify losses. This website has no login, wallet connection, deposit form or customer-support chat. A referral link only records attribution; it does not guarantee access, pricing, rewards, approval or investment results. Availability can differ by residence, legal entity and product, so no regional access is assumed from language or branding alone.

Scenario checkpoint

  • Write down the snapshot date and the list of coins covered before reading the ratio.
  • Use the Merkle verification tool to confirm your balance was included in the snapshot.
  • Read the methodology section and note whether the check was a full audit or a limited review.
  • Decide how much to keep on each platform rather than treating any ratio as a safety promise.
  • Compare each new report with the last one for changes in date, assets or method.
